The United States President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden on Friday exchanged their condolences to the family of the six-year-old boy who was killed recently in US in an alleged hate crime. The boy, Wadea Al-Fayoume, was a Palestinian-American and was brutally stabbed, 26 times, by his family’s landlord in Illinois on October 16. His mother was also stabbed a dozen times, reportedly over a row on the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.
The President and First Lady dialed Wadea’s father and uncle and expressed their “deepest condolences” to the family. They wished the mother of the child, Hannan Shahin, a swift and complete recovery. Mr Biden took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and shared that the boy’s family, a “Palestinian Muslim family”, came to America as a “refuge” with the sole aim to build a peaceful life – “to live, learn, and pray in peace”.
Tonight, Jill and I spoke with Wadea Alfayoumi”s father and uncle, following the six-year-old boy’s brutal murder, to express our deepest condolences to their family and to wish his mother, Hannan Shahin, a full recovery.

Mr Biden also pronounced his commitment to speak against the prevailing anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, and anti-Muslim hate and violence. He had mentioned the incident earlier also in the primetime address to the nation on the Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine war. The President then condemned the murder of the six-year-old by mentioning his name and added that he was a “proud American, a proud Palestinian American family”.
We have to reject hate in every form.
History has taught us again and again, antisemitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia—they”re all connected. Hate toward one group left unanswered opens the door for more hate towards more groups.

As the Chicago authorities claims, the crime was committed in motivation since the victims belongs to Muslim Palestinian inheritance and adhered the incident to the ongoing “war” happening between Palestine and Israel. The Sheriff’s office from Will County identified the man to be a 71-year-old Joseph Czuba. He was charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery and hate crime against the victim and his mother who were his tenants.
We are shocked and disturbed to learn that a landlord in Chicago expressing anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian views broke into a Muslim family”s apartment and attacked them with a knife, injuring the mother and killing her 6-year-old son, Wadea Al-Fayoume. @cairchicago will hold a… pic.twitter.com/N0ILuevq4n

According to The New York Time, Mr. Czuba used a serrated seven-inch knife for the brutal crime. Though the investigators refused any remarks on how they get to know about the motive of the culprit, it is claimed that, “detectives were able to determine that both victims in this brutal attack were targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslims and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis”. The culprit is said to taken to the court on Monday.
