As world leaders congregated for G20 summit at Bharath Mandapam in Paragati Maidan, New Delhi, a Leaders” Declaration for all developmental and geo – political issues was adopted with 100% consensus on Saturday, September 9.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced, “There is good news. With everyone”s cooperation, consensus has been reached on New Delhi G20 Leadership Declaration”.
In an important address during the G20 Leaders” summit, PM Modi underscored the immediate need in global collaboration in addressing change and financing shift towards sustainable energy system.
Conspicuous developments in today”s G20 meet are:
Affirmed commitment to zero tolerance of corruption. For combating corruption, the G20 grouping also called for strengthening asset recovery mechanisms.
PM Modi propounded G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation.
However, the declaration adopted did not mentioned anything about cutting green house emissions but said the member nations will encourage efforts to triple renewable energy capacity globally.
The Leaders” Declaration pronounced call for strengthening global health and implement one health approach. “We remain committed to strengthening the global health architecture with World Health Organization (WHO) at its core”, said G20 leaders in the declaration.
African Union has been declared as the new permanent member of G20, lending forward a new world order and offering developing nations a greater say in global decision making. Until recently, only South Africa was the part of the group. PM Modi stated that “It is an honour to welcome the African Union to G20 fold”.
PM Modi launched India-Middle East-Europe mega economic corridor, connecting India, Saudi Arabia, UAE, US European Union, France, Italy and Germany. A multimodal transport and energy corridor between India and Europe via Middle East.
As an arrangement to use cleaner fuels, PM Modi announced the launch of Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) which is expected to enhance trade in biofuels obtained from various sources including plants and animals and smoothen the global effort to reach zero emission target.
The declaration also adopted that trust deficit that has spiked in recent year has to overcome with cooperation from the member countries.
In case of Russia Ukraine war, the declaration observed that today”s era must not be of war. On the context of ongoing war, the declaration adopted all states must refrain from threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. Use or threat to use of nuclear forces were also declared inadmissible.
