Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated after Iran launched attacks on US military bases in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates and fired missiles toward Israel, following joint US-Israel strikes on Tehran.

According to officials, Iran targeted a US naval facility in Bahrain, including the service centre of the US Fifth Fleet. Explosions were reported in Manama, and smoke was seen rising from the Juffair area, where the American naval base is located.

In a statement, Bahrain’s National Communication Centre said, “The Fifth Fleet’s service centre was subjected to a missile attack. Further details will be provided later.”

In the UAE, Iran reportedly struck the Al-Dhafra airbase, with blasts heard in Abu Dhabi.

The attacks came hours after the United States and Israel carried out what they described as major military operations against Iran.

In Doha, Qatar, Al Udeid Air Base was reportedly attacked that serves as the forward headquarters of US Central Command and plays a critical role in American military operations across the Middle East.

The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet oversees operations across the Gulf, the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean. Bahrain hosts several US naval vessels, including anti-mine ships and logistical support craft, making it a strategic hub for American maritime operations in the region.

Israel said it launched “pre-emptive” strikes to remove what it called an existential threat. US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces were involved in a “major combat operation” targeting sites in Tehran.

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched missiles and drones toward Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed detecting missile launches from Iran and said its air defence systems were activated to intercept the incoming threats.

Sirens sounded across several regions in Israel, and citizens received emergency alerts on their mobile phones instructing them to stay close to protected areas.

Israeli officials said most of the missiles were intercepted, but the situation remains tense. Iran has warned of a “crushing” response, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

The escalation has also disrupted air travel across the region. Israel shut its airspace to civilian flights, while several countries suspended services to Iran and nearby areas as a precaution.
