Barack Obama, the former US President told allies that Joe Biden needs to reconsider his re-election bid, said the Washington Post. As per the report, Obama believes that Biden’s path to victory has diminished and he should “seriously consider the viability of his candidacy”.

While Obama was in office, Biden served as the Vice President from 2009 to 2017. The former President remain hugely influential in the Democratic party. He would be the most heavy-weight to join the list of Democrats calling for Biden to drop out, following a disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump.

Earlier, Obama supported Biden. In his social media post after Biden’s ‘disastrous’ presidential debate, he said, “Bad debate nights happen. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself”.

Biden, who is currently in isolation at his beach house after he was tested positive for Covid, denied concerns about his age and fitness and insisted that he is staying in the race for the White House.

The pressure keeps mounting on the President. Apart from the chorus of his own party members, several celebrities and megadonors of the party also came forward seeking Biden’s removal from the presidential run.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also reportedly met with Biden in recent days to warn that his candidacy threatens his party’s prospects in November’s election.

Though Biden started off the first presidential debate on a weak foot, he appeared to be more in command of facts amidst the stream of falsehood from Trump. However, that may not be enough to overcome the rising concern on Republican’s claims that Biden is slipping because of his age.

The debate spilled out the animosity between the two candidates – Biden and Trump – more than once, as they got personal. Each suggested that the other was a criminal.
