PM Modi At 6th Annual Quad Leaders Summit: Facts About QUAD

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a 3-day visit to the US from September 21 to 23, 2024. Today, PM Modi will be participating in the annual security dialogue to be held in Wilmington, Delaware. He shared the information about attending the Quad Summit via social media ‘X’. PM Modi has said that the QUAD has emerged as a key group to work for peace, and prosperity in Indo-Pacific.

During the summit this year, it is expected that the leaders will announce plans to expand the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness to include the Indian Ocean Region. Reportedly, the countries will also announce plans for increased military logistics cooperation.

Key Facts About QUAD

  1. Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) was proposed by then-Japanese PM Shinzo Abe in 2007 but fell dormant for almost a decade.
  2. It was Resurrected in 2017 on the sidelines of ASEAN Summit.
  3. QUAD consists of four countries – India, Australia, Japan, and the US.
  4. It aims to support an open, free, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
  5. This is the 6th QUAD summit and the 4th in-person QUAD summit of the leaders.
  6. India’s participation in the QUAD aligns with its ‘Act East’ Policy.
  7. India to host the QUAD summit next year in 2025.
