Police Seek Appeal For Victims In Sexual Assault Investigation Involving Religious Leader

Brampton, Canada: Peel Regional Police have arrested a 69-year-old Indian man in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

Ashok Kumar, also known as Ashok Sharma, was charged on Friday, March 7, 2025, after an alleged incident at the residence of a woman he was visiting to perform a religious ceremony. The assault occurred on March 3, 2025.

Kumar, a longtime religious leader in the Brampton community, has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

The alleged victim, whose identity is protected, had invited Kumar to her home to conduct a religious ceremony.

Investigators believe that Kumar’s role within the community may have allowed him access to more individuals, and they are concerned that there may be additional victims.

The Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit, which handles sensitive investigations of this nature, is actively seeking information related to this case.

Kumar, a resident of Brampton, is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date. He was taken into custody without incident and remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
