Pune, Maharashtra: In a shocking case of sexual assault, a four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered by a senior citizen in a village in Maharashtra’s Pune district. The incident happened in Bhor Tehsil on Friday, police said on Saturday.

The accused, a 65-year-old man, allegedly lured the child with the promise of food and took her to a shed in a cattle enclosure, and sexually assaulted and then killed the child there.

Police have arrested the elderly man in connection with the incident. After the girl went missing, her family began search for her. The CCTV footage from a private residence captured the accused with the child, the official said.

The incident sparked widespread outrage in the locality, and  hundreds of villagers rushed to a police chowki and demanded stern action against the accused. Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandipsingh Gill assured the public that a chargesheet in the case will be filed within 15 days.
