Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Fathered 100 Children Across 12 Countries?

Pavel Durov, the Telegram CEO, recently said that he has fathered 100 children, a statement that urged a double take. Adding to the shock, Durov also clarified that he is not married and intend to stay bachelor for most of his life. However, there is a twist to the 100 kids statement.

Over 15 years ago, a friend approached Durov, requesting him to donate his sperm to a clinic so that he could have a child. Although skeptical at first, Durov finally agreed. The clinic’s owner then approached Durov to be a donor on regular basis, claiming that he was a “high quality donor material”.

The clinic recently informed him that there were over 100 children born across 12 countries, just because of his sperm donation. Though Durov had stopped donating sperm a few years ago, the clinic claims that Durov’s sperm is still being used in major IVF clinics across the world, who have frozen it and use the sperm on requirement.

X owner Elon Musk compare Durov with Mangolian King Genghis Khan, who is infamously known to have fathered thousands of children.

Durov has an estimated worth of $9.15 billion – as per Bloomberg – and have citizenship in at least four countries including Dubai and France. Durov grabbed headlines when he was detained upon his arrival in France on August 25.

The French judiciary charged Pavel Durov for allowing alleged criminal activities on his messaging app Telegram. He was barred from leaving France during the investigation. The investigative judges also asked him to pay 5 million euros bail and to report to a police station twice a week. He was released after four days of questioning.

The allegations against the Russian-born multi billionaire also include complicity in the spread of sexual images of children and a litany of other alleged violations on the messaging app. The allegation also include that Telegram refused to share information or documents with the investigators when required by the law.

Taking to X, Durov said he was surprised by the incident and he trying to figure out what had happened. “Last month I got interviewed by police for 4 days after arriving in Paris. I was told I may be personally responsible for other people’s illegal use of Telegram because the French authorities didn’t receive responses from Telegram”, he said.

He also highlighted that no innovator will ever build new tools if they know they can be personally held responsible for the potential abuse of those tools. He stressed that “growing pains” on Telegram, a platform which has 950 million users made it easy for criminals to abuse the platform and that’s why he made it his personal goal to ensure that Telegram significantly improved things in this regard.

Durov also thanked supporters and “memes” that has been circulating. He said, “I hope that the events of August will result in making Telegram — and the social networking industry as a whole — safer and stronger. Thanks again for your love and memes”.
