Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, remarked there cannot be a trade corridor “without Turkey” as the new India-Middle East-Europe mega economic corridor was announced during the G20 summit held at New Delhi.
“We say that there is no corridor without Turkey. Turkey is an important production and trade base. The most convenient line for east to west traffic has to go through Turkey,” Erdogan told a press team that accompanied him for the G20 summit in India.
The India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor is an ambitious project that would bolster the trade between South Asia, Gulf and Europe via rail and sea links. The mega corridor include India, US, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the European Union, Italy, France and Germany as members.
As per reports, the project would have two corridors, eastern corridor which links West Asia and the Middle East and northern corridor that links the West Asia and the Middle East with Europe.
According to report, India will be connected to United Arab Emirates through sea to the Dubai port.
Meanwhile,Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the move by calling it tremendous.
Another corridor passing through Iraq is on the pipeline. The project is called as Iraq Development Road project which will link the Gulf to Europe. Turkey, Qatar and UAE are in support of this corridor.
“The United Arab Emirates is very ready for this job. Qatar is very ready. We are very very ready for this”, said Erdogan, according to reports.
Iran, Iraq and Syria is planning another corridor to the eastern Mediterranean.
