Former American President Donald Trump and his 18 allies were charged for their efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, in Georgia on Monday.

They were allegedly participated in a wide-ranging conspiracy to overturn the results, said the court.

It was Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney, who started investigating into Donald Trump after a phone call recording of Mr. Trump got released in January 2021. The call recorded Mr. Trump speaking to Brad Raffensperger, Georgia”s secretary of state.

Mr. Raffensperger was the state”s top elections official and a Republican. In the call, Trump suggested that Raffensperger could help him to find votes needed to overturn his narrow loss to Democrat Joe Biden, reported the Associated Press.

A chargesheet of nearly 100 pages was submitted in the court on Monday. It details dozens of actions by Mr. Trump and his allies including beseeching Mr. Raffensperger, harassing a state election worker who faced false claims of fraud, and attempting to persuade Georgia lawmakers to ignore the will of voters and appoint a new slate of electoral college electors favorable to Trump.

The plot outlined by Mr. Trump to tamper voting machines in a rural Georgia county and attempt to steal data from a voting machine company, is also mentioned in the chargesheet.

“The indictment alleges that rather than abide by Georgia’s legal process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn Georgia’s presidential election result,” said Fani Willis.

The 77 year old Donald Trump is the 45th President of USA, who served the country from 2017 to 2021.
