US Tariff List Includes Taiwan As A Country In Country-Wise Data

The Trump administration tariff list has shaken the global market as US imposes heavy tariffs on countries worldwide. The highest tariffs are imposed on Vietnam and Cambodia, followed by Bangladesh, China, Thailand and Taiwan.

Notably, among the Reciprocal Tariffs list released by the White House mentions Taiwan as a country and puts a discounted reciprocal tariff of 32% on it, making the tariff to 64%.

The listing ties into broader U.S.-China-Taiwan dynamics, with Trump’s tariffs which sets to start on April 9, 2025 and targets China, while Taiwan’s separate listing aligns with U.S. actions perceived as supporting Taiwanese sovereignty.

Beijing sees the island as a breakaway province which eventually be part of the country. But many Taiwanese consider them to be part of the separate nation although most of in favour of maitaing the status quo of not declaring independence from China or not unites with it.

US maintains ‘One China Policy’, but it also remains one of the most important international supporter of Taiwan by providing defensive weapons.

The island has been one of the most contentious issue in US-China relations, with Beijing condemning any support from Washington as a violation to its sovereignty. In 2022, after the US Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China responded with an unprecedented show of force conducting military exercises around Taiwan.
