Taking cognizance of the matter related to the plight of  Darshanam Mogulaiah, K. T. Rama Rao, a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly assured to personally take care of the Padma Shri awardee and his family.  Sharing Sucheta Dalal’s post, the Telangana MLA said, “Thanks Sucheta Ji for bringing this news to my attention I will personally take care of Sri Moguliah’s family. My team @KTRoffice will reach out to him immediately.”

Sucheta Dala, a journalist and managing editor at Money Life India, shared a news article on her social media account X. Expressing her discontent with the current situation of the Padma Shri Awardee she wrote, “This is the tragic reality of the people’s Padma. Mainly I feel good for the government. The awardee ends up like this- the heartbreaking and heartless reality of India.”

Reportedly, the Padma Shri Awardee Darshanam Mogulaiah has turned into a daily wager. He was seen toiling at a construction site near Turkayamjal near Hyderabad.  The 73-year-old artiste is famously known as ‘Kinnera’ Mogulaiah for reinventing the rare musical instrument ‘Kinnera’. Darshanam was conferred with the fourth-highest civilian award two years back.

Mogulaiah is the father of 9 kids and one of his sons is suffering from seizures. The Padma Shri recipient told TOI that for the medicine expenses of his son, he monthly needs Rs 7,000. However, the Padma recipient was awarded with a Rs 1 crore cash grant from the state government which was also spent in family exigencies leaving Mogulaiah to struggle for basic needs.

The artist also told to the TOI that despite making efforts to get employment, he could not get any and had to work at the construction site. Even, the monthly honorarium sanctioned by the state government was discontinued. He tried meeting government officials and public representatives but nothing positive came about, Mogulaiah said.

Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known by the acronym KTR, is the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and he served as the Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, and Industries & Commerce Departments in the KCR government. He is the son of K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), President of BRS and former chief minister of Telangana.
