Bollywood superstar and KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan has been admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad after suffering heat stroke. The actor was in the city to watch the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday.

According to sources quoted by news agency IANS, Khan experienced dehydration due to the high temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. Although his condition is stable, he remains under medical observation, and security has been tightened around the hospital. His wife Gauri Khan and actress and close friend Juhi Chawla visited him at the hospital. An official statement from the hospital is expected soon, IANS reported.

Khan, who co-owns KKR, celebrated the team”s victory on Tuesday night with a lap of honour at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He was accompanied by his children, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan, as they greeted the audience following KKR”s win over SRH, securing their place in the IPL 2024 finals. The official Instagram pages of KKR and the IPL shared pictures and videos of the celebratory walk, with fans chanting Khan”s name as he struck his iconic open-arms pose.

What is heat stroke?

Heat stroke is a severe heat- illness that occurs when the body”s temperature regulation system fails, and the body temperature rises to dangerous levels, typically above 40°C. It is a medical emergency that can cause damage to the brain and other vital organs if not treated promptly. Symptoms of heat stroke include high body temperature, altered mental state or behavior, nausea, vomiting, flushed skin, rapid breathing, and a racing heart rate. Heat stroke can be caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures, physical exertion in hot environments, or a combination of both. Immediate treatment involves cooling the person down, rehydration, and seeking emergency medical help.
