The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided to change its candidate from Bihar”s Buxar constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Removing the Union Minister of State Ashwini Choubey, who has been serving the seat for the past two consecutive term, the party has fielded Mithilesh Tiwari from the seat.

Tiwari is the former MLA of Gopalganj, his native place and General Secretary of BJP”s Bihar unit. He has been active in BJP from his student day itself. He entered the electoral fray in 2005, when he contested from Kuchaikot assembly constituency in 2005. He lost to BSP”s Amarendra alias Pappu Pandey.

Tiwari had to wait for 10 years to receive another nod from the party to enter the election fray. In 2015, he was given ticket to contest for the assembly election from the Baikunthpur assembly constituency of Gopalganj district. He served the seat for five years. In the 2020, assembly election, he was defeated by RJD”s Prem Shankar Prasad over a margin of 11,113 votes.

The Buxar was called as the Shahabad North-West Lok Sabha constituency during its first Lok Sabha election in 1952. The constituency was started calling Buxar from 1957 onwards. The current MP of Buxar is Ashwini Choubey, who won the seat for two consecutive times by defeating RJD”s Jagadanand Singh.

This year, the battle is between Mithileshh Tiwari and RJD”s Sudhakar Singh. Though, Buxar is a BJP bastion, election arena is quite challenging. Aanand Mishra, former IPS officer, and Nirbhay Yadav, son of former Bihar minister Dadan Yadav also filed nomination as independent candidate from the constituency, and this might pose challenge for BJP to retain the seat.
