Lok Sabha Polls: Congress To Support AIFB Nominee In Khajuraho

Edited by Timeline News Desk

Days ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the Congress party decided to extend its support to the All India Forward Bloc nominee, RB Prajapati, in the Khajuraho Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh. On Monday, April 15, Congress announced that RB Prajapati would be the INDIA bloc’s joint candidate on the seat.

Congress made this crucial move as the nomination of Meera Yadav, the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) candidate from the Khajuraho seat, was rejected by the returning officer on April 5. Reports suggest that Meera Yadav’s nomination was rejected by the returning officer as she failed to submit the verified voters’ list and her signature was missing at one place.

On that occasion, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav severely criticised the action and called it a “blatant murder of democracy.” The SP leader also wrote in Hindi on his X handle on April 5 that “those who can cheat in front of the court’s camera, what kind of conspiracies they must be hatching behind the back after getting the form.” Akhilesh Yadav also added that there should be a judicial inquiry into the matter.

As per the seat-sharing arrangement, Congress had left the Khajuraho seat for the SP. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the BJP managed to get the nomination of the SP candidate rejected by going against all norms of democracy. The Congress leader also said that the party has extended its support to RB Prajapati. “He will be the joint candidate of INDIA Group from Khajuraho Lok Sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh,” added Jairam Ramesh.
