Edited by Fazal Rahman Chembulangad

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate in Kerala’s Kollam Lok Sabha constituency G Krishnakumar’s eye was recently injured in an alleged attack amid the rush of the election campaign. Following the incident, Krishnakumar sustained injury in his left eye. The actor-turned-politician then alleged that the opposition CPM workers were behind the attack while he was campaigning. Notably, in an embarrassment for the contestant, the police on Monday arrested a BJP worker, Sanal in connection with the incident. The police found Sanal responsible for the BJP candidate’s injury.

As per reports, the accused confessed to the police that it was an accidental incident. The key he was holding in his hand accidentally hit Krishnakumar’s eye, causing injury in the NDA candidate’s eye. Sanal said that the incident happened when he was pointing out the next campaign location.

In a social media post, the BJP candidate blamed the opposition for the attack. “I sustained an eye injury ( suspected attack by oppn parties) during my Lok Sabha campaign in Kundra, Kollam, Kerala. Your prayers and support during this time mean everything to me. Thank you,” Krishnakumar wrote along with sharing images of his injured eye.

The incident happened when Krishnakumar was in Mulavana as part of his election campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Kerala is expected to cast the vote on April 26 in the second phase of the general elections. The person booked by the police was released later on bail. He was a native of the Mulavana and also the General Secretary of BJP’s Kundara Punchayet Committee.

Krishnakumar had complained to the Kundara police station alleging he suspects that the CPM workers attacked him with strong weapons because he criticised the left party leaders. In his complaint, the NDA candidate also stated that he was targeted because he talked against the CMP for disrupting the Thrissur Pooram.
