Ramcharitmanas, Panchatantra, And Sahṛdayāloka-Locana Enter UNESCO's Memory Of The World Register

Confirming the country”s rich heritage and cultural legacy, Ramcharitmanas, Panchatantra, and Sahrdayaloka-Locana entered into the “UNESCO”s Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Register”.

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), played a vital role in securing the place of this work during the 10th meeting of the Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP). IGNCA ensured the entry of the cultural legacy in UNESCO”s MOWCAP Regional Register. This was the first time IGNCA submitted the nomination to the regional register since it came into existence in 2008.

As per the government”s press release, the recognition signifies the efforts put forward for global cultural preservation efforts and the diverse narratives and artistic expression that shape our shared humanity.

Ramcharitmanas, Panchatantra, and Sahrdayaloka-Locana were authored by Goswami Tulsidas, Pt. Vishnu Sharma and Acharya Anandvardhan respectively. These timeless works have deeply influenced Indian literature and culture, in shaping the nation”s moral fabric and artistic expression, the release mentioned.

The 10th meeting of the MOWCAP was convened in Ulaanbaatar, with 38 representatives from member states along with 40 observers and nominees.

Prof. Ramesh Chandra Gaur from IGNCA, presented the 3 entries from India and effectively defended the nominations at the Ulaanbatar convention.

The nominations secured inclusion in the MOWCAP regional register after a rigorous deliberation and receiving recommendations from the register subcommittee and voting by the member state representatives.

A multinational initiative called the Memory of the World Programme aims to protect, preserve, and make it easier for people to access and use documentary history. In 1992, UNESCO initiated the Program and it includes the inscription of significant documentary heritage on national, regional and international registers.
