What is Automotive homologation?
Automotive homologation is the process of certifying vehicles or a particular component in a vehicle that has fulfilled the requirements set by various statutory regulatory bodies. This process involves compliance related to regulatory certification, and approval of vehicles and automotive components for sale and use in different markets worldwide. It is important to get this approval to sell and export automobile products or components.
The rules and norms have been made mandatory globally due to increased importance on safety and environmental protection. Automotive solution providers, technology developers, manufacturers and suppliers have to adhere to these regulations as per the country or region of their product.
Software-defined vehicles and autonomous driving functions are drastically increasing the complexity of driving and testing. Homologation certification assures consumers of the safety, quality, compliance of vehicles and subsystems. This helps to bring trust and confidence in the automotive market and enhance brand reputation.
