MG Windsor EV Prices With Battery Pack Will Commence From October 3

MG Motor created a revolution of sorts when the company announced the launch of the Windsor EV in India. This has come at an introductory starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, this is the price of only the car and the carmaker will offer the battery as a service (BaaS) on a rental basis. A buyer would pay only for the car besides the charges incurred for the battery only at a per km basis. However, now MG Motor has announced prices for the Windsor EV with the battery pack as standard fitment. Prices for the electric CUV starts at Rs 13.50 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be available in three variants namely— Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.

MG Windsor EV boasts a 15.6-inch infotainment system, the largest in the segment, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and apps like JioSaavn and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The base Excite variant gets a smaller 10.1-inch touchscreen and a smaller 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

Additionally, the Windsor EV boasts of a backseat that reclines up to 135 degrees, electrically adjustable driver’s seats, rear AC vents and a 360-degree camera system along with a panoramic glass roof. Other novelties on offer include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, a 9-speaker audio system by Infinity, and 256 multi-colour cabin ambient lights.

Powering the MG Windsor EV is an electric motor mounted on the front axle which pushes out 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The motor draws its energy from a 38 kWh battery that offers a range of 331 km (ARAI) on a single charge. There are four drive modes on offer: Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport.

MG Motor is offering multiple charging options with the Windsor EV which includes a 3.3 kW CCS2 connection that takes 13.8 hours for the battery to rejuvenate. Other charging options available are 7.4 kW and 50 kW, which take 6.5 hours and 55 minutes. The battery on offer in Windsor EV can be charged up to 45 kW DC fast charger.

BaaS models are gaining momentum as a way to lower the upfront cost of EVs for consumers. Another major benefit of renting batteries is that owners are handing over the responsibility of maintaining an EV’s most valuable component to the manufacturer.
