MG Mifa 9 MPV India launch likely in 2025 through JSW MG Motor India’s premium retail channel

It is confirmed that the Mifa 9 MPV will be introduced right after the Cyberster roadster, the first vehicle to be marketed via the new premium network. MG Motor India is prepared to launch its premium retail network, MG Select. The premium electric MPV will be displayed once more by MG Motor India at the next Bharat Mobility Show in January, following its earlier display at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Mifa 9 is anticipated to retail for around Rs 65 lakh when it goes on sale in March 2025.

Although a luxury van might not seem like a natural fit for MG’s new retail network, the Mifa 9’s selection fits in nicely with the company’s Select business model, which calls for selling “New Energy Vehicles” (NEVs) that provide “new-age luxury.” Additionally, MG intends to launch its business in just 12 major locations, so a premium niche offering makes sense. The fact that premium MPVs have been gaining popularity is also encouraging. With a monthly manufacturing target of 300, Kia has received orders for 3,000 Carnivals, while Toyota sells around 100 Vellfires. Thus, MG’s choice of the Mifa 9 has good potential to tap into this growing niche segment.

The Mifa 9 is sold by MG owner SAIC under the Maxus name in places including China and the UK. It has the MG emblem in places like Singapore and the Philippines, although the LDV brand is used in Australia. The G90 is an internal combustion variant of the Mifa 9, which was initially introduced in 2021 as an all-electric car. The 2.0-liter gasoline or 2.0-liter diesel engine mated to a mild hybrid system powers the ICE variant. The G90 is unlikely to arrive here given MG’s emphasis on electric vehicles and its intention to provide powerful hybrids.

The electric Mifa 9 includes a front-motor front-wheel-drive system with a 90kWh lithium battery, similar to the G90’s front-engine front-wheel-drive configuration. The motor’s stated WLTP range is 430 km, and it produces 245 horsepower and 350 Nm. The Mifa 9 is a big car, even by luxury MPV standards, measuring 5.2 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and 1.8 meters in height. That is longer and broader than even the Vellfire, and it is larger overall than the Kia Carnival. The Mifa 9 has plenty of space inside and can accommodate seven or eight people. The Mifa 9 is quite well-loaded, much like the others in the sector. Benefits include fold-out seats and heated, ventilated, and massaged front and rear seats.

Even though the Mifa 9 is a product for a certain market, a lot depends on it. In addition to hitting predetermined sales goals, the Mifa 9 will serve as a real test of the brand’s price elasticity and the exact amount that Indian consumers are prepared to spend on an MG MPV. The Cyberster roadster, a high-end, two-seater convertible electric sportscar that will be introduced concurrently with the Mifa 9, will significantly improve MG’s reputation. Despite being on different extremes of the spectrum, the Cyberster and Mifa 9 will share a common space. The goal is to demonstrate clients the range and diversity of high-end MG cars.
