The Porsche 911 Carrera T has been revealed with facelift, and for the first time, the German brand has showcased the entry-level driver-focused 911 in Coupe and Cabriolet form. Along with changes to the exterior and interior, the refreshed Carrera T is exclusively available with a manual gearbox, and gets more standard tech, among other tweaks here and there.
Porsche has reduced weight by 40kg by using lightweight windows and reduced sound insulation, which means the Carrera T, tips the scales at 1,478kg. The T gets the Carrera’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six engine, which makes 394hp and 450Nm of peak torque. There is 6-speed manual gearbox, which replaces the 7-speed manual and the dual-clutch auto options. Porsche achieves a 0-100kph time of 4.5 seconds for the coupe and 4.7 seconds for the convertible, and a top speed of 295kph and 293kph.
Among the design changes are new 20-inch front and 21-inch lightweight alloys from the Carrera S, the GTS’ rear spoiler, and a unique shift-pattern sticker on the rear side windows. On the inside, the T features a walnut-trimmed short-throw gear lever and a heated GT sports steering wheel. Four-way-adjustable leatherette seats are standard, but they can be specced with 18-way-adjustable seats or lightweight bucket ones, which are optional extras.
The updated Carrera T also sports a quicker steering ratio than the outgoing model and gets four-wheel steering as standard; the latter was an optional extra on its predecessor. Porsche’s PASM adaptive suspension system, which lowers ground clearance by 10mm than the standard springs, continues to be standard.
There’s no word on if and when the 992.2 Carrera T will be brought to India, but the 911 facelift is on sale here in Carrera at Rs 1.99 crore and Carrera 4 GTS at Rs 2.75 crore. This car is an absolute favourites for anyone who wants to own this car at this price. It follows a very straightforward formula – a 911 simplified, with less weight, and all the emphasis on the joy of driving. To back this up, it’s available exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. Oh, and it has a walnut gear shifter. Very cool. For the first time, two bodystyles are offered – coupe and cabriolet.
