Six years after the A90 Supra was first introduced, Toyota has unveiled a track-honed special edition. This is the final version of the sports vehicle before it is put out of production. It has strong new stylistic elements, a race-inspired cockpit, and a completely redesigned chassis.

2019 saw the global debut of the A90 Supra, the fifth version of the company’s flagship sports vehicle. Since it was co-developed with BMW, it shared many components with the Z4 roadster. Both vehicles are manufactured by Magna Steyr in Austria.

Toyota debuted the Supra brand in 1978 and built four iterations of the vehicle over the course of 20 years before discontinuing it in response to impending pollution regulations. The company’s petrolhead chairman has a passion project: bringing it back to life with the A90 in 2019.

Wind-cheating canards, a large cooling vent on the bonnet that indicates the significant power boost, and a hefty carbon-fibre rear spoiler are the main features of the Final Edition’s deliberate, track-inspired exterior makeover. To differentiate the cabin from the normal Supra, it has red seatbelts, carbon-fibre trim components, and Recaro buckets finished in Alcantara, which is red on the driver’s side.

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 3.0-liter six-cylinder BMW engine with 383 horsepower and a manual or automatic transmission are the available options for the basic A90 Supra. Additionally, just 300 of the run-out A90 Final Edition will be produced worldwide. It is built on the top-of-the-line 3.0-liter model, but it has been supercharged with 435 horsepower, which is more than a Porsche 911 Carrera.

Toyota has not disclosed the performance improvements, but we expect that the upgraded Supra will reach 100 kph in less than 4 seconds. ECU programming adjustments, a new low-back-pressure exhaust catalyst, and changes to the airflow system provide the power gain. Additional cooling measures, an Akrapovič backbox for a “powerful engine sound,” and a new baffle plate in the oil pan to prevent oil starvation during track use are also added to the Supra.

Clamp-drilled discs and upgraded brake pads are installed on the vehicle. A reinforced rear subframe and KW dampers that can be adjusted are also used from the Supra GT4 racing car. In comparison to the normal version, the final edition has new Michelin PS 2 tires, which are 10% wider. For the last leg of manufacturing, Toyota has also made minor stylistic changes and optimised the differential on the basic 3.0-liter Supra. Despite the Final Edition being the last version of the Supra to be driven on the road, Toyota “will continue to hone the Supra through motorsports activities going forward.”
