The Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 Recon represents an impressive upgrade in the world of EV motorcycles. Though it isn’t a full second-generation product, numerous small enhancements and a significant price reduction make it more appealing than ever.
Design Changes
Visually, the F77 Mach 2 remains largely the same but now offers more vibrant colour schemes, including an eye-catching yellow. The TFT dash layout has been revamped to adopt an aeronautical theme, though some numbers remain small. Crucially, it now features a readout for the newly introduced controllable regenerative braking.
Regenerative Braking
The F77 Mach 2 boasts nine levels of regenerative braking, with level 9 being the strongest and level 0 offering free coasting. Impressively strong, the regen is well-tuned and can send up to 30% of power back to the battery, enhancing the range. Changing regen levels is effortless with arrow buttons on the left switchgear. Level 9 is excellent for aggressive riding, providing enhanced control, while lower levels suit more relaxed riding.
The strong regen also necessitated a stability control program that works with rear ABS to prevent rear wheel lockup. Additionally, the Mach 2 introduces three-level traction control, which performed well on dry roads.
Ride and Handling
The Mach 2 offers small increases in power and torque, with the Recon model producing 40 hp and 100 Nm of torque. It now achieves a top speed of 155 kph, although its 0-100 kph time of 7.7 seconds places it within the realm of 250-300 cc bikes. The uninterrupted torque surge in Ballistic mode provides a unique and enjoyable riding experience.
The riding position remains sporty yet comfortable. At 207 kg, the F77 is heavier than typical 300-400cc petrol rivals, affecting handling in certain scenarios like slow U-turns and sudden direction changes. However, the new regen system helps mask the bike’s weight during braking, reducing the load on the single 320mm front disc.
Battery and Range
Despite no change in battery size, software optimisation has increased the range. The base model with a 7.1kWh pack claims an IDC range of 211 km, while the Recon with a 10.3kWh pack claims 323 km. In real-world conditions, expect around 180-200 km with mixed riding and about 150 km in Ballistic mode.
Price and Verdict
The F77’s introductory prices are now Rs 2.99 lakh for the base model and Rs 3.99 lakh for the Recon, making it competitive with rivals. The lower running costs and improved features, including a Hill Hold system, tire pressure monitoring, and optional extended warranties, make the F77 Mach 2 Recon a highly attractive option in the EV motorcycle market.
