Air India has launched an investigation into a disturbing incident where a passenger found a foreign object in their onboard meal on a flight from Delhi to New York on September 17, 2024. A lady named Suyesha Savant posted on social media that she found a cockroach in the omelette served, and her two-year-old son had already finished half of the meal. A spokesperson for the airline now confirmed that the incident is being taken seriously and necessary actions will be pushed to prevent future occurrences.
Found a cockroach in the omelette served to me on the @airindia flight from Delhi to New York. My 2-year-old finished more than half of it with me when we found this. Suffered from food poisoning as a result. @DGCAIndia @RamMNK pic.twitter.com/1Eyc3wt3Xw

Following the social media post, Air India spokesperson said: “We are concerned about the experience of the customer in the said instance and have taken it up with our catering service provider to investigate it further. We will take necessary actions to prevent any recurrence of such instances in future.”
This is not the first time Air India has faced issues with foreign objects in their meals. Several similar incidents have been reported in the past raising concerns about the airline’s food quality as early in June, the airline was accused of the presence of a “foreign object” in the food. In the same month, an Airindia passenger named Mathures Paul posted photos of his meal that he found a blade-like metal object in the meal and accidentally chewed it for a few seconds. Later, he blamed Airindia for the carelessness and escalated his tension that what if the metal piece was in the food served to a child.
Air India food can be cut like a knife. Hiding in its roasted sweet potato and fig chaat was a metal piece that looked like a blade. I got a feel of it only after chewing the grub for a few seconds. Thankfully, no harm was done. Of course, the blame squarely lies with Air India’s… pic.twitter.com/NNBN3ux28S

A similar case befell early in the same week when a business-class passenger of the airline had alleged that he was served “uncooked” food by the airline and he said that the seats were too filthy to sit on. He stated that travelling in Air India is no less than a nightmare. However, the airline has responded to all the incidents with apologies, yet similar cases have been happening frequently, especially on international flights.
Dead Air India,
This is so dated equipment, worn out cushioning & broken chairs ….
Rs.5,00,000 for such service and flight experience is not acceptable #AirIndia pic.twitter.com/ue8ngWimir
