New Delhi: Following a suspected technical issue, a London-bound Air India flight from Delhi came back to the bay on Thursday, July 31. The cockpit crew stopped the departure and brought the aircraft back for checks when the plane was preparing for take-off.

The airline has said that it has arranged for an alternative aircraft to fly the passengers to London at the earliest, adding that its staff are helping those affected by the delay.

“Our ground staff are extending all support and care to the guests to minimize the inconvenience caused due to this unexpected delay. “At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our passengers remain the top priority,” the airline stated.

The airline spokesperson said that Flight AI2017 operating from Delhi to London on 31 July returned to bay due to a “suspected technical issue” and the cockpit decided to discontinue the operation.

Notably, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)’s July audit had recently raised 51 safety lapses in Tata Group-owned airline. It pointed out deficiencies including lack of adequate training for some pilots, use of unapproved simulators and a poor rostering system, flight dispatch, cabin crew procedures among others.
