
Air India Flight From Kochi Overshoots Mumbai Runway (image:x.com/flyingbeast320)
Mumbai: An Air India flight overshot the runway at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport (CSMIA) on Monday due to heavy rainfall. The incident occurred at 09:27 hours as the aircraft was coming to Mumbai from Kochi. No injuries were reported to the passengers or crew members so far.
As per the reports, with 175 passengers, aircraft had left from Kochi airport at 7.43 am. During its landing at the Mumbai airport at 9.27 am it encountered heavy rain, resulting in a runway excursion after touchdown.

“Flight AI2744, operating from Kochi to Mumbai on July 21, 2025, experienced heavy rain during landing, resulting in a runway excursion after touchdown. The aircraft taxied safely to the gate, and all passengers and crew members have since disembarked,” Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
Due to minor damage on the airport’s primary runway (Runway 09/27), the second runway (Runway 14/32) has been activated to enable uninterrupted flight operation. The Mumbai airport has two converging runways and only one can operate at a time.

The flight has been grounded in for checks. “The aircraft has been grounded for checks. The safety of passengers and crew remains our top priority,” Air India spokesperson said.
There are reports that aircraft’s three tyres burst during the landing, and the aircraft’s engine may have been damaged. The repair work on the affected portion of the main runway has started.
