Fancy a mere $72 ticket to Kuala Lambur in coming months from Kerala? In a boon for travellers, AirAsia, Malaysian low-cost airline that is renowned for offering affordable air travel primarily in the Asia-Pacific region, is set to revolutionize the accessibility to international destinations from Kerala, particularly the Malabar region, as it announces its tri-weekly service from Kozhikode to Malaysia, with tickets starting at an enticing Rs 6,000.
The Malaysian budget airline is gearing up to commence its operations from May, with bookings slated to kick off by mid-April.
Currently, travellers from the region predominantly rely on airports in Kochi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, and Coimbatore for their international journeys to Malaysia. However, AirAsia”s new service from Kozhikode aims to change the landscape by offering affordable and convenient travel options.
While comparing ticket prices, it”s evident that AirAsia”s offering significantly undercuts the current rates. For instance, the cheapest one-way flight from Kochi to Kuala Lumpur is priced at over Rs 8,000, whereas from Thiruvananthapuram, it dips below Rs 7,000.
Operating on an A320 aircraft with a seating capacity of 180, AirAsia”s initial phase will focus on the Kozhikode-Kuala Lumpur route. The airline is also contemplating extending its services to destinations like Thailand, further enhancing connectivity for travellers in the region.
This development opens up a myriad of possibilities for passengers, especially those from Malabar regions, Coimbatore, and Mangaluru, who frequent countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Bali, Australia, and New Zealand for various purposes such as business, tourism, and education.
In addition to the Malaysia route, AirAsia Malaysia has announced the resumption of flights to Vientiane from Kuala Lumpur, commencing on 2nd July 2024. This move is significant as it establishes AirAsia Malaysia as the sole provider of direct flights to all 10 ASEAN countries.
The airline”s extensive network spanning the ASEAN region, home to approximately 800 million people, not only enhances connectivity but also fosters economic growth and cultural exchange through tourism. As the largest low-cost carrier in ASEAN, AirAsia plays a pivotal role in the economic development of the region, generating positive spill-over effects such as job creation and increased tourist spending.
The resumption of flights to Vientiane, Laos, is poised to bolster regional connectivity and contribute to the Lao government”s tourism targets for 2024. With AirAsia”s track record of serving close to 50,000 passengers between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane in 2019, it reaffirms the airline”s position as a preferred choice for travelers within the region.
