Amazon partners with Indian Railways and Postal Department which would enable sellers to drop their products at locations across the country which can be transported across the world. This could speed-up their deliveries and strengthen its networks.

With the signing of the MoU with Indian Railways and Postal Department, Amazon becomes the first e-commerce company to leverage freight corridors in India. This was announced at Amazon Smbhav Summit 2023 which brought together, leaders of industry and policy makers to discuss the future prospects for small and medium business.

Amazon has acted upon the government’s target of $200 billion for e-commerce exports for the next five years, reported the ET.

On this, Amazon India’s Vice President, Abhinav Singh said, “this partnership will enable exports of billions of dollars,” and added, “in June, honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with our CEO Andy Jassy and during the conversation, the Prime Minister spoke about the importance of leveraging India”s colossal infrastructure pillars in the Air Force and Indian rivers to help accelerate the growth of e-commerce in India. This collaboration is a step in that direction and is headed towards making for global commerce experts.”

The Secretary at Department of Posts and Chairperson, Postal Service Board, Vineet Pandey,  said on this, “this will open up new avenues for SMEs to expand globally by showcasing their products. We”ll be also doing handloading, sharing information, exchanging guidance through Amazon global platform. One of the challenges of international trade has been navigating the complexities of customs values and regulations. This partnership also aims to simplify those issues.”

The MoU would simplify international payments, customs clearance and logistics support for small sellers who would want to export their products, Business Today said.

Jaya Varma Sinha, Member Operations & Business Development, Railway Board, said that, “there are various scales on which transport can be booked based on the category of the train that it is being carried on, and the transaction structure necessary. With this, we hope to significantly enhance the logistics and supply chain efficiency of e-commerce businesses and also provide cost-effective, eco-friendly and reliable services. This also comes with several value additions, including reduced travel time and decreased transportation costs,” she further said that the strategic locations of the railways could act as ideal fulfilment centres.

On the occasion, Amazon along with India Post, unveiled a commemorative postal stamp, celebrating the decade long partnership between the two in reaching out to customers in India’s serviceable pin codes. The stamp shows the transportation modes used by Amazon to ship products, reported the ET.
