X (formerly Twitter) and Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday lashed out at Disney boss Bob Iger over his move to stop advertising on X. Musk asked the company to oust Iger immediately.
“Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company,” Mr. Musk said in a series of posts against the media giant.
Musk also hinted at the recent box-office performances of some Disney firms, saying Mr. Iger dropped “more bombs than a B-52” and accused Disney of advertising on other social media platforms with controversial contents.
Walt Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery had boycotted X over its alleged anti-Semitic stand. In earlier response Musk said, “I don”t want them to advertise.”
Musk also used profane words against these companies, saying, Go [expletive] yourself.” “If someone is going to blackmail me with advertising or money, go [expletive] yourself,” he said.
However, many more corporations, including, Walmart, Apple, IBM, Sony, Comcast (including NBC Universal), and Paramount, decided to leave the platform. These companies reportedly contribute almost 7% of X’s total income.
In July, Mr. Musk confirmed that ad revenue for X had dipped by 50%. Last month, Musk was seen sharing an anti-Semitic post, which he later called the “dumbest” thing he had ever shared online.
Bob Iger had brought back to Disney after his retirement 12 months ago in order to navigate the company through turbulence times as its profit plummeted and share prices fell. Iger is known for his candid acquisitions during his earlier tenure involving the likes of animation studio Pixar, comic book company Marvel, Rupert Murdoch”s 21st Century Fox, and Lucasfilm, the home of Star Wars.
