Foxconn CEO Young Liu Honoured With Padma Bhushan

The Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Taiwanese technology giant Foxconn, Young Liu, has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan. As a global business leader, Foxconn CEO has received the recognition for his immense contribution to accelerate the growth of local economy.

Young Liu is a recognized entrepreneur and an innovator who founded three companies– a motherboard company in 1988 known as Young Micro Systems; an IC design company in 1995 focused on the PC chipset and an ITE Tech company, ITeX in 1997.

On receiving the prestigious award, Young Liu sent heartfelt thanks to the President, Prime Minister and the wonderful people of India for the distinction. He added, “I am deeply honored to receive the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India and believe this is an affirmation of a collaboration that benefits India’s long-term development and supports the growth of local economies”. “I will continue to inspire my team. Let’s do our part for manufacturing in India and for the betterment of society”, said he.

Foxconn, the Taiwan-based company is world’s largest contract manufacturer which assembles nearly 70% of iPhones. Amid geopolitical tensions and following COVID-19 disruptions the technology giant has been diversifying production away from China.

The company has expended its outreach to India specially in manufacturing facilities in Southern India. The business, which is well-known for making Apple iPhones, already has an iPhone factory in Tamil Nadu that employs close to 40,000 people. According to a top Foxconn official the business plans to increase its footprint in India by investing a sizeable $1.6 billion in new construction projects.

Young Liu who emphasised India’s importance as one of the future manufacturing hub last year, has been conferred with one of the highest civilian honours in India. The announcement came on the eve of Republic Day and award distribution ceremony will be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The recognition given to the Taiwanese businessman shows how committed India is to advancing its economic interests notwithstanding the geopolitical landscape as it stands. Despite a dispute over sovereignty and democratic goals that exists between China and Taiwan. India has always demonstrated respect for the “One China” policy and has stood by its policy of not meddling in its neighbor”s domestic affairs. India”s primary goal has always been to promote growth, development, sustainability, and stability in the area.

This year President conferred 132 Padma awards in numerous fields including arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service etc.
