GST Collections Rise 14% To ₹1.95 Trillion In June On Strong Import Growth

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose sharply in June, which indicates continued resilience in economic activity despite global uncertainties.

According to data released by the Finance Ministry, gross GST revenue stood at ₹1.95 trillion, marking a 13.9% year-on-year increase.

The growth was largely driven by a strong surge in tax collections from imports, which jumped 34.6% year-on-year to ₹60,038 crore.

Domestic GST revenue also showed steady growth, rising 6.5% to ₹1.35 trillion, reflecting stable consumption and business activity across sectors.

After adjusting for refunds, the net GST collection for June stood at ₹1.62 trillion, an 11.2% increase compared to the same period last year. GST refunds also rose significantly by 29.1% to ₹32,436 crore, indicating faster processing of taxpayer claims by the authorities.

Officials noted that the higher collections were supported by both increased import activity and consistent domestic demand, suggesting that the economy continues to maintain momentum despite external pressures such as global trade uncertainty.

For the first quarter of FY27 (April–June), GST collections also showed steady growth. Gross GST revenue increased 8.4% year-on-year to ₹6.32 trillion, compared to ₹5.83 trillion in the same period last year. Net GST revenue during the quarter rose 7.1% to ₹5.40 trillion.

Economists say the trend points to a stable revenue environment, supported by formalisation of the economy and improved tax compliance.
