Amazon, the e-commerce conglomerate, is cutting an unspecified number of positions in its music division in the latest round of layoffs. Reuters reported that an Amazon spokeswoman confirmed this layoff. However, the spokeswoman denied saying how many workers were impacted.
Reports suggest that Amazon employees in Latin America, North America, and Europe received the layoff mail on Wednesday, November 8. The Amazon spokeswoman said in an emailed statement that Amazon is closely monitoring its organizational needs and prioritizing what matters most to customers and the long-term health of businesses. “We will continue to invest in Amazon Music,” the statement added.
In January, Amazon announced layoffs that affected more than 18,000 employees. It was the largest job cut in Amazon“s history. The company had started its first round of layoffs in November 2022. Amazon also laid off another 9,000 people in March, taking the total number of people laid off to a whopping 27,000.
Earlier in October, Finnish telecom giant Nokia announced its major layoff plans as part of its cost-saving measures. Nokia decided to reduce as many as 14,000 jobs after experiencing a 19 percent year-on-year decline in net sales during the third quarter. Social networking platform LinkedIn also announced its second round of layoffs in October, eliminating 668 jobs. LinkedIn”s first round of layoffs in May affected almost 700 employees. A report from TechCrunch revealed that the tech industry has witnessed more than 240,000 jobs lost in 2023 so far. Tech giants and startups across various sectors announced layoffs to tackle the market situation.
