Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the Union Cabinet has decided to cut LPG gas prices by Rs 200 per cylinder. He was addressing a press conference in New Delhi to brief the media about the cabinet decisions.
“The domestic customers will get a relief of Rs 200, while the Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries will continue to get Rs 200 subsidy,” the minister said.
He added that the price reduction is Prime Minister Narendra Modi”s gift to the women of the country during the auspicious occasion of Onam and Raksha Bandhan.
The government has also decided to provide 75 lakh new LPG connections for free under Ujjwala scheme.
When the media asked whether the decision has got anything to do with the upcoming elections or the ruling BJP”s debacle in Karnataka Assembly elections, the minister said this is a policy decision to benefit the customer and has got nothing to do with the elections.
“Effective 30.08.2023, the price of a 14.2 Kg LPG cylinder will be reduced by Rs 200 in all markets across the country. In Delhi for instance, the decision will bring down the cost of a 14.2 Kg cylinder from the existing Rs 1103 per cylinder to a more affordable Rs 903 per cylinder,” the oil ministry said in a statement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “This is a gift to crores of my sisters of the country on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Our Government will always do everything possible that improves people”s quality of life and benefits the poor and middle class.”
“We understand the challenges faced by households in managing their budgets. The reduction in cooking gas prices is aimed at providing direct relief to families and individuals, while also supporting Government’s larger goal of ensuring affordable access to essential items,” Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, expressed his happiness with the decision.
