NLC India, a central public sector undertaking, now, has a green arm initiative. The new company, NLC India Green Energy Limited, would begin its business activities soon. The company’s first board meeting has been conducted, its logo has been adopted and key positions to managerial posts have been decided upon, a press release of the Ministry of Coal said.
NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL), has been incorporated as a fully owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited, formerly, the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, which is also a Navratna Central Public Sector under the Ministary of Coal, company. NIGEL would concentrate on all renewable energy initiatives.
The Chairman of NIGEL, Shri. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, released the logo of the company, and said that the company’s focus would be on projects to renewable energy, which would aid in raising the RE power generation capacity in a faster manner. As the industry scenario is optimistic, the growth of RE, along with storage systems such as Pumped Hydro System and Battery Energy Storage System will also move ahead simultaneously.
He also said that, according to CEA report – the Optimal Energy Mix Report 2030, Ministry of Power, the ‘envisaged BESS on the grid is about41.65 GW and this provides great opportunity for storage system development.’
NIGEL is expected to bring in RE projects to the capacity of 6 GW by the year 2030. The country has various projects to the tune of 2 GW which is being developed, the release said.
