Rajan Bharti Mittal, the vice chairman and managing director of Bharti Enterprises, said in a recent interview with Hindustan Times that he has always favoured merit instead of favouritism in the businesses. India”s top entrepreneur also highlighted the value of meritocracy in the business world.
“I always believe that you know at the end of the day, it is merit that should count and not just because somebody is a favorite or somebody needs to be pushed forward,” said Rajan Bharti Mittal during the interview with Hindustan Times” Kumkum Chadha. Mr Mittal, who graduated from Punjab University before pursuing further studies at Harvard Business School, believes that merit-based decision-making leads to innovation and overall economic growth.
In the interview, Rajan Bharti Mittal also mentioned Sunil Bharti Mittal, the founder and chairman of Bharti Enterprises. Rajan Mittal said that Sunil Mittal”s leadership is clearly visible in the growth of Airtel. Notably, as of May 2023, 63-year-old Rajan Mittal’s net worth stands at around two billion dollars less than his brother Sunil Mittal”s, at $4.1 billion dollars (over Rs 33,670 crore). Suni Mittal once revealed in an interview that Rajan Mittal was the person who went to Sanchar Bhawan in Delhi to submit the Airtel bid, which consisted of “two tempo loads of boxes”.
