P Chidambaram took to social media to take a dig at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Elon Musk concluded a visit to China following the postponement of his trip to India. In his post, Chidambaram highlighted Musk”s swift visit to China after deferring his plans to visit India, where the Tesla CEO held discussions with Chinese officials, including the Prime Minister.
“Elon Musk deferred visit to India citing “Tesla obligations”. Within days, he visited China and held talks with PM of China and discussed bringing his new Self-driven car to China. Hon”ble PM of India privately fumes and publicly claims that the Indian government is a majboot Sarkar (strong government),” P Chidambaram wrote on X.
Elon Musk”s decision to delay his visit to India came just a day before his scheduled arrival, citing pressing Tesla commitments. However, soon after, Musk embarked on a whirlwind visit to China, where he engaged in talks with top Chinese officials and secured crucial clearances for Tesla”s operations in the country.
Musk”s visit coincided with significant developments for Tesla in China, including the clearance of Tesla”s locally produced models and progress towards gaining approval for its assisted driving technology.
Earlier as well, the Congress party used the billionaire-entrepreneur’s decision to postpone his India visit to attack the BJP government.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress’s general secretary in charge of communications, took a veiled dig at PM Modi over the decision suggesting it was prompted by political dynamics emerging in India that caused the call by Elon Musk. Ramesh made a reference to the anti-incumbency sentiment faced by Prime Minister Modi as the general elections are underway in India.
Ramesh remarked on X, “It was odd that Elon Musk was coming all the way to India to meet an outgoing Prime Minister. He too has now read the writing on the wall and decided to put off his visit.”
He also added that INDIA alliance’s Prime Minister will welcome Musk soon, and “the INDIA Government will promote electric vehicles even more aggressively – I myself am a user of one”.
Congress-led INDIA alliance is engaged in an aggressive campaign against PM Modi-led NDA in the seven-phased elections, of which the second phase was concluded on Friday.
