TCS Nashik Sexual Harassment Case: What We Know So Far

A major controversy has erupted around Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) after serious allegations of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion surfaced at its Nashik facility, prompting arrests, internal action, and a high-level police investigation.

The company has confirmed that employees named in the case have been suspended, reiterating its “zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion of any form.”

The development follows complaints filed by at least eight women employees, who have accused senior colleagues of sustained mental, physical, and sexual harassment over a period of two to three years.

According to police reports, the alleged incidents took place between 2022 and 2025 at the company’s office in Nashik.

The complainants, mostly aged between 18 and 25, have alleged that they were subjected to inappropriate remarks, molestation, and coercive behaviour linked to religious practices.

Some survivors claimed they were pressured to participate in specific religious rituals, including offering namaz and observing practices against their will. There are also allegations that vulnerable employees were targeted based on personal circumstances and manipulated over time.

Police have registered multiple FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, harassment, and hurting religious sentiments. In total, at least nine cases have been filed across different police stations in Nashik.

So far, seven individuals, including team leaders, engineers, and a senior HR official, have been arrested. One more accused, reportedly an HR executive, remains absconding, with police teams actively tracking her.

Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle the case, citing its seriousness and the scale of allegations.

The SIT is examining both technical and physical evidence, while also probing claims that earlier complaints made to the HR department were ignored.

In an official statement, TCS said it acted promptly upon becoming aware of the issue. The company stated:
“We have always ensured the highest standards of safety and well-being of our employees. The employees under investigation have been suspended, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities.”

However, questions remain about the company’s internal mechanisms, particularly regarding why earlier complaints reportedly did not lead to timely action.

The case has quickly taken on political overtones. Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan confirmed the formation of the SIT and assured strict action.

Meanwhile, Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar urged IT companies to strengthen workplace safeguards, warning against any form of coercion or harassment within corporate environments.

The controversy has also sparked protests and sharp reactions from political leaders, with some calling for stricter oversight of corporate HR practices and employee safety protocols.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on gathering evidence, recording statements, and locating the absconding accused.
