Techie Quits Microsoft In One Year After Taking 30+ Attempts To Get There

Haimantika Mitra, a techie from Siliguri, West Bengal, has made headlines after she resigned from her dream company, Microsoft, after working there for about a year.

What is particularly noteworthy is that it took Haimantika Mitra, who is currently based in Bengaluru, more than 30 attempts to get hired by the tech giant.

Then, why did she quit the company? was the question that arose in the comment section while she shared her experience with social media. To this, the Developer Advocate by profession replied that the position she got hired for (support engineer) ‘wasn’t exactly what I wanted to do in life.”

She had to continue in that role for a few years to be considered for the other desirable positions at Microsoft that were not acceptable for her as she wanted a faster pace. Moreover, if she continued to spend two-to-three years as a support engineer only, that would result in losing her relevance. “Therefore, I had to quit,” Mitra said.

Mitra was introduced to the Microsoft community during COVID, and according to her, she had a strong interest in the company after her interactions with the members, including engineers and other senior professionals.”I felt drawn to the company,” the Siliguri Institute of Engineering (SIT) graduate told Moneycontrol.

On what made Satya Nadella-led internet giant become her ‘dream company, ’Mitra said, “The first technical group that I was active in there was the Student Ambassador community, and I really started falling in love with Microsoft tools. Being a part of the community allowed me to interact with engineers and senior professionals, and that”s when I began to like the work culture. Slowly, I realized that it was my dream place, and I had to work with them.”

After going through some unprecedented events, Mitra still has the urge to work at her favorite company. She would ‘love to return’ to Microsoft in the future if a suitable position came up.

“Not right now, but definitely someday.”
