A clash broke out at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi during the Diwali celebration in the evening yesterday. The conflict started when some individuals allegedly tried to destroy the Rangoli with their feet and extinguish Diyas. Rashtriya Kala Manch organized the Diwali celebration ‘Deepotsav’ at the campus.
A Rangoli competition was organized and students lit candles when a small altercation emerged between the ABVP goons and a group of Jamia students that disrupted the peaceful event. According to reports, some students also started raising slogans. Considering the situation, a heavy police force was installed around the campus area to prevent any escalation.
Student Federation of India, Jamia stated the altercation that happened on the campus and alleged that the Rashtriya Kala Manch, an ABVP-affiliated organization, invited ABVP goons from outside to disrupt the campus peace by creating a communal atmosphere on the campus premises. The ABVP goons started chanting slogans like ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in the faces of women students whilst misbehaving with them.

When the Jamia students intervened in the matter, the ABVP goons unleashed brutal violence on the students. Later the police intervened in the matter and lathicharged on the students injuring them.
As per the SFI, the ABVP goons later left the campus unenquired and while the Jamia students were attacked and injured.
According to the students at Jamia campus, the event was held peacefully and all of the sudden some slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’, ‘Allah -o- Akbar’ were being raised in the campus.
