Amazon recently announced that it will expand its Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) program. With this significant expansion, Amazon is planning to introduce advanced coding and artificial intelligence (AI) modules in 100 Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) schools. The company said that over 13,000 students across 30 districts in Karnataka will benefit from this initiative.
“This expansion will impact over 13,000 students in grades six to eight across 30 districts of Karnataka,” said Amazon in its official statement. Amazon also added that they will provide digital infrastructure enhancements for 30 KREIS schools. The company says that the expanded module will enable students to develop complex computer applications incorporating advanced programming concepts. Also, students will be introduced to the basics of AI through project-based learning.
According to Amazon, the 20-hour module was created to take into account the current exposure of students to computer science and coding. While the fundamentals of block programming will be taught to sixth-grade students, advanced programming and the basics of AI will be introduced to seventh and eighth graders. “This project-based learning module will empower students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a tech-driven world,” said David Zapolsky, Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy, and General Counsel at Amazon. The company unveiled the AFE program in the country in 2021. Amazon claims that the program has supported more than 1.5 million students across India to explore and learn computer science. Apart from India, this program is also available in the US, UK, Canada, and France.
