Amazon shoppers will be soon able to buy cars on the e-commerce giant’s website. Amazon is all set to launch online vehicle sales in the US, starting with Hyundai in 2024. For this initiative, Amazon has announced an important strategic partnership with the Hyundai Motor Company.
From 2024, customers will be able to buy a Hyundai vehicle on Amazon and will also have the choice of picking up their vehicle at a nearby dealership or having it delivered. Customers can search on the e-commerce platform for available vehicles in their area based on a range of preferences. This includes model, trim, color, and features. Then, users can choose their preferred car and then check out online with their chosen payment and financing options. “This new shopping experience will create another way for dealers to build awareness of their selection and offer convenience to their customers,” said Amazon and Hyundai in a statement on November 16.

Amazon”s latest move is expected to make a huge impact in the automotive retail space. Amazon will act as a middleman between the buyers and the dealership. However, it is not clear how Amazon and the dealerships will share the revenue from the sales. Axios reported that the stocks of various major used car sellers plunged after the announcement. Meanwhile, as part of the strategic partnership, Hyundai has chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider. With this, Hyundai is aiming to push its digital transformation using broad and industry-leading AWS capabilities. Amazon and Hyundai will also be working to add the Alexa built-in experience to Hyundai’s next-generation vehicles.
