The Union Health Ministry has approved to start of MBBS courses at 5 new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. With the commencement of the courses here, 600 new seats are added to the existing seats in the state.
Also, the number of seats at the medical colleges in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur has been increased from 50 to 100. The addition of new seats has brought the total number of new seats for the academic session 2024-25 to 1,200.
With this, the seven medical colleges are recognized in the first appeal. Of the total 11,200 seats, 5,150 are in government medical colleges while 6,050 seats are in private medical colleges.

Reportedly, DG of Medical Education Kinjal Singh said, that the department has already submitted an appeal to the Union Health Ministery requestion the addition of 100 MBBS seats at autonomous state medical colleges in Auraiya, Chandauli, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Kashambi. Additionally, the medical education department asked for the approval of the additional 50 MBBS seats at Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur, the DG said.
The Union Health Minsitery has approved the addition of seats in all these medical colleges which resulted in 600 more seats to the state.
