'Credit To BJP, Frank Admission': Congress Leaders React To BJP MLA's 'Degree Nothing' Remark

Responding to the BJP MLA’s comment on gaining academic degrees, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor today asked the people if anyone still needs to ask which party has better ideas for India’s future. He was reacting to the advice given by Pannalal Shakya, a BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh, to students at an event.

While speaking during an event inaugurating a ‘PM College of Excellence’ in his Guna constituency, the BJP leader appealed to students, asking them to keep in mind that “nothing is going to happen with these college degrees.” The MLA advised the students to “instead, open a motorcycle puncture repair shop to at least earn a livelihood.”

The bizarre suggestion of the saffron politician has raised the eyebrow of many, suspecting the party’s commitment to education.

Taking to X, Congress Thiruvandanapuram MP Shashi Tharoor stated that when people are concerned about education and employment, the frank admission of the BJP MLA is a pretension of his own government. “Just when all are concerned about the state of education & lack of employment, comes this frank admission from a BJP MLA that “punctures” the pretensions of his own government. Does anyone still need to ask which party has the better ideas for India’s future? ⁦@INCIndia,” the Congress leader wrote.

Reacting to the BJP’s leader’s comment, Congress general secretary in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh opined that the credit should be given to the BJP for  “the top-class discipline in their economic messaging.” “The self-anointed divinity talks about the virtues of selling pakodas as an antidote to unemployment, and their MLAs dismiss college degrees as ‘useless’ and urge students to open puncture shops,” The Congress Rajya Sabha MP wrote on X.

Notably, the BJP MLA Shakya, who grabbed the headlined with his odd comment is not the first time coming to the fore for controversial statements. Rose from the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP leader in 2017 sparked a row when he said that Virat Kohli was not patriotic, pointing out that the cricketer chose Italy, instead of India, to marry actor Anushka Sharma.
