IIT Delhi M.Sc Student Commits Suicide In His Hostel Room

An M.Sc. second-year student at the Indian Institute of Technology committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his hostel room. The deceased Yash Kumar belongs to Deoghar, Jharkhand. No suicide note was discovered on the spot.

Kumar’s medical records revealed that the student was undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Kumar’s friend and IIT staff broke the window to enter the room as the door was locked from inside. The Delhi Police was informed about the incident at about 11 pm, Tuesday. The police reached the spot and the room was closed from the inside however his friends and IIT staff had already reached the room. The deceased was later taken to IIT hospital and was declared dead by the doctor on duty. While taken to the Safdarjung Hospital, Kumar was declared ‘brought dead’.

As per the reports, the deceased was undergoing psychiatric treatment and visited IIT Hospital on October 22. Kumar was taking treatment at IIT hospital and also fixed an appointment on October 29. No other reason was noticed after talking to his friends, said the police. Further proceeding under Section 194 of BNSS will be carried out.

Dean of student affairs issued a letter to students informing about the incident, “With a heavy heart, it is our unfortunate duty to inform you of the tragic and untimely demise of our student Kumar Yash, a resident of the Aravali hostel and a second-year student of MSc Cognitive Science. Kumar was found in his room late last night. The police have taken custody of his mortal remains”.
