13 teachers in Bihar”s Jamui districts are penalised for noting “bed performance” in the education department letter read. The letter drew criticism from many including the teaching associations as it circulated on social media. However, the office of the District Education Officer (DEO) came out with the clarification via a letter saying that “bad performance” was mistakenly typed as “bed performance”.
Notably, earlier on May 22 surprise inspections were conducted in various schools located in the Jamui district during school hours and several teachers were found absent from the duty. Additionally, the letter issued by the DEO mentioned that the performance of many teachers was also not found satisfactory. As a disciplinary action against the teachers, a decision of deduction of salary was taken by the education department.
The letter issued by the DEO said that the salary of the teachers has been deducted for “bed performance”. Subsequently, when the letter went viral the DEO office came with the clarification over the spelling error in the official error.
The DEO letter clarified that “Bad performance was mistakenly typed as “bed performance” due to typing error”.
While the small spelling error has raised questions whether the teachers should be blamed for their conduct or is it the education department that has been exposed.
In response to the letter, the some users seems to take the matter lightly by appreciating the disciplinary action taken by the education department. One user said,”Although this can be taken as a joke.. however action taken against those teachers should be appreciated. These days we all are very prompt in finding out errors of the world”.
