The story of Yaseen Shan Muhammed who secured 2nd rank in Kerala Judicial Services Examinations 2024 and qualified to be a Civil Judge, has inspired many. Yaseen says sheer hard work could bring him success.
Yaseen who belongs to Palakkad, Kerala spent his childhood with his mother after the separation of his parents. To support her two kids and elderly mother-in-law, Yaseen’s mother worked as a wage laborer and an ASHA worker to provide financial support. His family lived in the house under the state government’s housing scheme.
He had to face a great deal of financial struggles and worked as a milkman, and newspaper vandor while studying. Yaseen also worked as a wage labor at many construction sites to support his familial needs. Yassen while talking to the LiveLaw, told how he used to be a below-average student due to the paucity of time to focus on his studies.

After completing a diploma in electronics, he joined a salaried job in Gujarat, however, came back to Kerala after a year of service. Yaseen later graduated in Public Administration and completed his law education from Government Law College, Ernakulam, with 46th rank. To mitigate the impact of financial needs, during the Covid -19, he worked as a delivery boy and also gave tuition.
In March 2023, after completing LLB, he got registered as a lawyer and started his career as a junior lawyer under advocate Shahul Hameed PT in Panttanbi Munsif-Magistrate Court. With the support and encouragement of adv Shahina NV and Reshma NR who have already cleared the Kerala Judicial Services, he appeared for the judiciary examination and cleared it with the 2nd rank.

Notably, this was his second attempt, and in the previous attempt Yaseen, could not clear the main examination. Yaseen told to LiveLaw that he focused on basics from the Bare Act and Case Law and also on understanding the judicial cases. He further added that comprehensive study and hard work helped him in securing a good rank as there is no shortcut to success.
