The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced the registration process for the Young Scientist Programme. The registrations for the program aimed at school children are starting on February 20. The application deadline is March 20, ISRO informed.
ISRO has introduced the education initiative, to inspire a greater number of students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields at a younger stage.
The space research organisation announced the news via a post on ‘X’ declaring that YUva VIgyani KAryakram (Young Scientist Programme) – 2024 is open to registration. It informs that Indian students of class 9 are eligible to apply and registration can be done via its official website.
The Yuva Vigyani Karyakram aims to instill fundamental knowledge and awareness about emerging trends in the field of space technology, space science, and space applications among young students. ISRO informs that the initiative is to motivate more students to seek careers and engage in STEM research.

According to the information ISRO aims to ensure a minimum participation from each State/UT. The YUVIKA programme will be held from May 13 to 24, 2024.
The students will be selected following a standard set of parameters which include marks obtained in the class 8 exam, performance in online quizzes, participation in science fairs, rank in the Olympiad, winners of sports competitions, NCC, and Studying in rural areas. Notably, students studying in villages or rural areas will be given 15% marks.
The programme is planned at seven centres of ISRO viz. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, Satish Dhavan Space Center (SDSC) Sriharikota, U. R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru, Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad and North-Eastern Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong.
