JMI Professor Gets Prestigious Fellowship In Japan

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) honored Prof. Naved Iqbal with the prestigious “Invitational Fellowship for Research in Japan-2024”.  Prof. Iqbal is the faculty in the Department of Psychology at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Under this esteemed fellowship, Prof. Iqbal will delve into research in Japan focusing on ‘Wellbeing and Religion,’ collaborating with Prof. Hiroshi Yama from Osaka Metropolitan University, Osaka, Japan. Additionally, Osaka Metropolitan University has offered him the position of ‘visiting professor.’

Beyond his research endeavors, Prof. Iqbal will share his insights and expertise through lectures at esteemed institutions including Osaka Metropolitan University, Kyoto University, and Waseda University, Tokyo, thereby contributing significantly to academic discourse.

Prof. Iqbal is a distinguished figure in his field, having an illustrious international profile. Notably, he served as a visiting professor at the Institute of Psychology, Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, Poland, during the summer semester of 2023. He is also a valued member of an International Professional group pivotal in establishing a chair in UNESCO on child maltreatment in 2022. Additionally, Prof. Iqbal holds the distinction of being an Honorary Principal Fellow at the Center of Wellbeing Science at the University of Melbourne, Australia, since April 27, 2022.

Furthermore, he has secured various international research grants and other fellowships, including Indo-Canadian (Shastri Research Grant, SRG- 2017-18), Indo-German (UGC-DAAD, PPP-2018-19) research project, the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) visiting fellowship- 2019 at the University of Leicester (UK), the “Directors of Associated Studies” (DEA) program-2021 by the International Foundation of the House of Human Sciences, France and visiting fellow-2024 at Airlangga University, Indonesia.

Prof. Iqbal’s academic output is prolific. He has made contributions to three books (eds), more than 90 research papers in national and international journals, and contributions to 10 papers/chapters in books. Additionally, he has presented approximately 50 research papers and delivered more than 30 invited lectures and keynote addresses at seminars and conferences. Notably, his impact extends to the educational realm, as he has delivered lectures in nine different countries and presented around 100 lectures in various Indian universities and colleges. These accomplishments firmly establish him as a leading authority in his field, garnering admiration and respect globally.
