More Institutions Joining CUET-UG Scores For Admission: UGC Chairman

UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar talked about the increasing number of higher education institutions joining the CUET-UG score process for admissions into various courses. He said that around 50 more institutions have registered to use the CUET-UG score for admission in UG programs for the session 2024. Till last year, a total of 142 institutions joined the CUET score process.

Chairman Kumar shared the information via ‘X’, he said, “So far, 46 Central Universities, 32 State Universities, 20 Deemed-to-be-Universities, 98 Private Universities, and 6 Government Institutions have registered for using CUET-UG scores for their admission in UG programs. More are joining.”

The information about the Institutions that have registered for using CUET-UG scores for their admission in UG programs is given on the official website – https://cuetug.ntaonline.in/universities.

Candidates” marks from both the CUET and the qualifying exams are the basis for the CUET scorecard. For the academic session 2023–2024, NTA has been tasked with administering the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2023, which is required for admission to undergraduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) programs at participating universities. This exam is conducted at the national level.

After the declaration of the CUET results, the respective Universities declare the counseling or admission schedule and merit list based on the CUET 2023 score including any other criteria of participating universities. NTA generates the Score Card only. Scores and candidate data would be shared with all the participating Universities.

Reportedly, the CUET-UG is going to be conducted in hybrid mode, The UGC chairman said earlier that this will provide more test centers nationwide and will benefit candidates from rural areas to participate in the examination closer to their homes by promoting geographical inclusivity.

According to the new proposed changes in the exam, students will be allowed to write up to six papers, as opposed to the previous requirement of ten. He also informed about the moderate difficulty level of questions in the CUET-UG exam, which will reduce students’ reliance on coaching centers.

A week before the test date, NTA will announce the cities where the student must take the exam. Students can download their admit cards a few days before the test for security reasons.

Chairman Kumar said that the National Testing Agency is yet to announce the CUET-UG exam schedule, as, two of the exam dates are overlapping with the election dates on May 20 and May 25. In the given conditions the new date sheet will be prepared considering the given overlap.

Notably, the CUET-UG application process has begun on February 27. The online application window (only mode) is open from February 27 to March 26 (till 11:50 PM) and the correction window will remain open from March 28 to March 29, 2024. Last year nearly 36 lakh students appeared for the exam in nine phases across 387 cities in India and 24 cities abroad.

The CUET (UG) 2024, will be conducted in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
