The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a prestigious examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and admission to various arts and humanities PhD programs in Indian universities and colleges.

Online applications for the UGC NET were open from April 16 to May 7, 2025, with corrections allowed until May 10. The exam was conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from June 25 to 29, 2025 (initially tentative as June 21-30), across multiple shifts at centers nationwide.

The admit cards for the UGC NET exam were released prior, and the provisional answer key was published on July 5-7, 2025, with objections accepted until July 8-9. For which the results are expected on July 22, 2025, via ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

Candidates need a Master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender) to apply for the exam. Those in their final year can apply provisionally. For JRF, the age limit is 30 years (relaxable up to 5 years for reserved categories, women, etc.); no upper age limit for Assistant Professor/Ph.D. admission. Four-year bachelor’s degree holders with 75% marks (70% for reserved) are also eligible for JRF/Ph.D.

The UGC NET comprises two papers in a single 3-hour session without breaks. Paper 1 (50 MCQs, 100 marks) tests teaching/research aptitude, reasoning, comprehension, and general awareness. Paper 2 (100 MCQs, 200 marks) focuses on the chosen subject.
